We need to talk about wings

Everyone in Buffalo has opinions on three things: the Bills, the Sabres, and where the best place is to get wings.

The internet was abuzz yesterday as Bar-Bill has really become the only place suggested by folks within the Bills organization (hell of a marketing ploy if they are doing that).

But why has Bar-Bill become the unanimous choice to send folks who are in town? Buffalo is blessed to have phenomenal wings wherever you go really.

And if there is one thing we can all agree on it’s that wings rock. They are the best, and it’s nice to have some positive things we are known for. That is why I am proposing a new way, a better way for us all. Wings should be a uniting front, not a great divide.

Now to be honest with the masses, I grew up an Elmo’s guy. Those were the wings that made me realize how special wings can be, and in my opinion those wings are just in their own category.

The cajun honey mustard double dip cannot be compared to a traditional hot wing.

I am proposing we put together some sort of flow chart with categories (like a choose your own adventure for wings). That way people can go to a spot that makes the most sense for them.

There are great wings across WNY, and there is no need for a wild goose chase if people don’t have the time for that. The heavy hitters always get the recognition, but some phenomenal smaller spots also deserve their flowers as well.

Due to the nature of this, I do not have this chart together right here, right now. But I need your suggestions, I need you to tell me your favorite spots and why you like them.

I will be back home in Western New York this weekend and need to try some of the heavy hitters. Bar-Bill and WingNutz are at the top of that list. But that’s the beauty in Buffalo, there is an infinite amount of places to go that have great wings.

  1. Mammosers in Hamburg. It’s a dry rub that is different from traditional hot, just like Elmo’s (which is my favorite spot as well). I think you got an excellent idea here with the flow chart! I live down in the Southtowns and it’s rare for me to get out (work/kids) so I’d love to have a tool like that when I do get the opportunity to branch out.
