Josh Allen is the only thing I need involved to be convinced to watch something. Wednesday night, The Bills QB will get some serious national exposure as he will be playing in “The Match” with an unlikely partner: Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes.
As if rooting for Allen/Mahomes in this golf event wasn’t easy enough, Tom Brady is the opponent. Brady is paired with Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers.
This is the Sixth version of “The Match” and Brady/Rodgers both have prior experience with these events. Allen and Mahomes do play a lot of golf too, Allen was recently in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am as PGA Tour member Keith Mitchell’s partner. Allen had some memorable moments during that event highlighted by his stellar bunker shot that had social media in a frenzy.
As far as everyone’s golf game goes, we know that they are all competent golfers from what we’ve seen, but Tom Brady is what scares me most for Team Allen/Mahomes on Wednesday. He’s shown flashes of greatness in previous iterations of “The Match”. Brady also posted a video of himself “getting a Hole-in-One” with awesome drone footage last week.
The course itself is very cool and should set up nicely for our viewing experience. I contacted my friend over at Sideshow Golf, who has played at Wynn Las Vegas, host of “The Match”. The Tom Fazio designed course is public, but it costs 600 dollars to play. Caddies/Forecaddies are mandatory and the course is kept as well as you’d imagine a 600 dollar course could be kept. It is the only course on the Vegas Strip and almost every aspect of it is completely fake – fake waterfalls, ponds, elevation changes, etc. They make you feel like you are the only person out there and that you are far away from all of the outside noise of Las Vegas. I think this will be an awesome event to view on TV, the course has a history of presenting well for viewers in previous events.
If you are going to bet on “The Match”, my advice would be to just throw a comfortable amount on whatever team you would like to see win, just to have some skin in the game. There’s really no “lock” when it comes to this, but the price I’m seeing on Allen/Mahomes is +140 and I think given the pretty even skill amongst the group this is a good bet in terms of value. Plus, I’m taking this because I want Allen to win, of course. Let’s go Bills and Let’s go QB1.
