The Greatest Spectacle in Racing

The Indycar Series will be running their biggest race of the year (2nd biggest race overall in my book with the Daytona 500 being the 1st) on Sunday with the Indianapolis 500 (1PM ET, NBC). For the first time in series history the race will not be on Memorial day weekend or be held in front of fans. Instead the 300,000 seat facility will be empty and the only people inside the track will be track, team and Indycar employees. That does not mean the racing on the track will be any different though. Last Sunday they held qualifying with Marco Andretti earning the pole with a speed of 231.068 MPH. This Sunday though all bets will be off as 33 drivers will drive over 240 MPH and come inches from wrecking.
My Longshot pick this weekend is Alex Palou (45/1). The rookie has looked fast in practice and has a good starting position for the race. If Alexander Rossi can run on fumes and win the race so can Palou. Looking for a big hit (if it happens) this is the guy.
My Underdog pick for this race is Graham Rahal (25/1). I was between him and Ed Carpenter here, taking Rahal because he has a better starting spot. Graham is a 2nd generation racer, his father Bobby won this race back in 1986 so he has someone to help him with this. Rahal still looking for his first win in this race and why not a year where everything is messed up a little bit.

My pick to win the Indy 500 is Scott Dixon (4/1). He is the hottest driver in the series right now and I can not bet against him. Dixon barely got beat out for the pole and has a win at this track before. Scott Dixon gets back to victory lane at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and furthers his points lead
