The Forecast Calls for Extremely Binge-worthy Second Season of “The Umbrella Academy”

If you’ve never seen Netflix’s series, “The Umbrella Academy”, trust me. You are seriously missing out. But it’s okay, I’m nice enough to help you catch up. In its first season, Umbrella Academy introduces us to a dysfunctional family of seven adopted kids raised by their militant, “evil scientist” of a father in what he calls, The Umbrella Academy. All of these adopted kids have two things in common: They all were born on the same day across the world, and they all have crazy super powers…ex. Talking to the dead, mind control through rumors, super strength, etc.
Season 1 tells the story of seven adopted siblings with powers, reunited by the death of their father and trying to stop an apocalypse. At the end of the season we see the siblings jump through a time warp, not knowing where they’ll land. Flash forward 17 long months of waiting for Season 2.

The show starts off showing us that the siblings have jumped back in time to the 1960s, oh yeah, and all of them jumped back one year a part from eachother…(sucksssss for Klaus and Allison’s characters being minorities jumping back to a deeply racist and homophobic time) but nonetheless its mostly a very fun aesthetic to watch. Friends, I can’t explain to you the sheer joy that filled my ears every single second a song was played on this show. The. Soundtrack. Is. INCREDIBLEEEE. The fight scenes are brilliant. The humour made me hardcore BELLY laugh. And lastly, the overall theme of the show is a perfect mix of serious drama and not so serious, off-the-wall “extra” moments that are precisely and perfectly placed.
The 10-episode run – which brings together Cold War paranoia, the plot to assassinate JFK and surreal adventure – sees the unexpected return of some season one players, plus a host of brilliant new characters. I won’t spoil who they are for those who haven’t seen season two yet. Lastly, The incorporation of the start of the 60’s BLM movement and the conspiracy of the elite controlling the
outcome of presidencies is SO relatable, given the time that we are all living in right now.
Currently holding a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, I highly recommend ‘The Umbrella Academy’ on Netflix. This fun adventure is something we all need during this time. PLUS, to give you a better idea of how addicting it was to watch, my roommate Kate and I actually binged the last 8 episodes of it in one Sunday…..we couldn’t stop watching!!! Don’t judge us!! The forecast calls for bumy binge-watch day, so take out your umbrellas (and your sweatpants) folks!
