I’m not going to sugar coat it. It’s been a rough first week and last night was no exception. I can make excuses and I can complain about bad beats all I want but the fact of the matter is the results are not there. My picks the past week should belong in the trash so that’s exactly where we are going for tonight’s action. I’m dumpster diving into the trashiest of trash conferences, the lowest of the lows, and I’m not coming out until I find winners. So whip out your hazmat suits, put on your face masks (not just for COVID protocols but for the smell), and get ready to be introduced to the bottom dwellers of the college basketball world.
Record: 7-12-1 (-6.2u) ?????
Hampton (-2.5) vs Presbyterian
Our first stop on the dumpster tour lands us in a Big South battle between Hampton (8-9, 8-9 ATS) and Presbyterian (5-11, 7-8 ATS). I don’t need to give an in-depth analysis on both these teams to tell you what you already know. They both stink! However, Presbyterian’s stench is a bit stronger than Hampton’s. For starters, Presbyterian is one of the worst offensive teams in the country (ranked 341st out of 357), and they are also one of the worst teams on the road. On the road, this season Presbyterian is an atrocious 1-7 with a point differential of -91. They also have yet to win their first meeting against a conference opponent (0-6). I don’t see that changing tonight when they meet Hampton for the first time.
Campbell (-3.5) vs USC Upstate
For our next game, we are staying in the Big South for the first match-up between Campbell (10-9, 8-9 ATS) and USC Upstate (4-13, 8-8 ATS). Campbell is as underrated as a Big South team can be. They are winning all the games they should and have yet to drop a game to any team ranked below them. The good news for Campbell is USC Upstate is 35 spots lower in the rankings. Campbell also is quietly having a very good shooting year. Campbell is ranked 11th in the country in field goal percentage and 18th in effective field goal percentage. They are shooting the ball at a ridiculous 50.3 percent clip, which is 8.8 percent higher than USC Upstate. Oh, and Campbell’s team name is the fighting camels. I mean, how cool is that?! For all those reasons, I am going to put my faith in Campbell.
SIUE (+2.5) at Tennessee Tech
We are traveling to the Ohio Valley conference for our final game of the night, where SIUE (7-10, 10-6 ATS) takes on Tennessee Tech (2-18, 9-10-1 ATS). I’ll keep this one short and sweet. Should a 2-18 team be laying points to anyone? Absolutely not. Especially not against SIUE, who has proven they can handle themselves on the road in conference play (4-2, 5-1 ATS). Take SIUE to handle business on the road against another inferior opponent.
