Follllkksssssss, it’s a new year, same Slick L bringing you picks for the UFC’s 2021 debut on fight island, Abu Dhabi! I’ve had a few weeks to recover from my last set of absolutely abysmal picks… but hey, like I said it’s a new year. Let’s dive into the picks, just a couple this week, but effective ones.
Carlos Condit (-177) vs. Matt Brown (+145)
This is actually a very underrated co-main event here. Two vets that match up well on paper and in the octagon. Our pick on this one is mostly a fade on Matt Brown. The dude is 40 years old and I wasn’t by any means impressed in his last fight against Baeza. Neither of these guys are steam rolling or on a hot streak, tough to make a very confident pick.

Santiago Ponzinibbio (-305) vs. Li Jingliang (+240)
This welterweight matchup featuring two international talents will surely be action packed. Both of these guys are extremely exciting fighters to watch and also have serious knockout power. We know what Ponz is capable of but will the two-year break be a factor here? The Leech is as unpredictable as they come on the feet so I could see him catching Ponz off guard, but I don’t think he has enough to beat him.

Max Holloway (-162) vs. Calvin Kattar (+138)
Here we have another example of premium match making by Dana White and the UFC. Arguably the greatest featherweight of all time against Boston’s own Calvin Kattar. This bout is tough for me to make a pick, as I like both of these guys a lot. To me what it will come down to is momentum and I think Kattar is far ahead in that category. Dude has been on a tear lately and is fighting the best fights of his career. However, you should never count out Max Holloway, and you could argue that he won his last fight against Volkanovski. With the winner undoubtedly earning themselves a title shot, Max Holloway will be looking to put himself back in that position. Ultimately, I have to go with my gut instinct on this one, I’m picking Kattar to shock the world.
