The NHL Trade Deadline is here and the Sabres have begun off-loading some assets. After trading defenseman Brandon Montour to Florida for a 2021 3rd-round pick, GM Kevyn Adams is sending Taylor Hall and Curtis Lazar to Boston in exchange for forward Anders Bjork and a 2021 2nd-round pick.

The deal was first reported by ESPN’s John Buccigross following a series of cryptic tweets late last night.
Sabres fans have had a mixed reaction to the deal. Many are upset about the return being less than a 1st-round pick, having to use Lazar as a sweetener or the fact that Bjork gets paid double what Lazar does for even less production. Let’s check out a few of the top tweets:

Taylor Hall has 19 points in 37 games and isn’t 33 years old and isn’t worth a first? pic.twitter.com/aWiGKo96XJ

Defend the #Sabres and the “trade market” all you want, but trading Hall for a 2nd isn’t the biggest issue here.

It’s that they think Bjork is better than Lazar. Twice as good in fact, given his bloated salary.
It’s a whack trade. Justify it all you want, but it’s whack.
Watching young Jack Eichel and Anders Bjork discuss this theory about colors is so fascinating that I've actually changed my mind and the Sabres won the trade. pic.twitter.com/xOSG3C5Pk4

Both Anders Bjork and Curtis Lazar are solid bottom-six players. Bjork had some great defensive seasons, but this year he hasn't been so good. Curtis Lazar is a bigger body player, that's probably why Boston wanted him. pic.twitter.com/kzCb5OVS6R

Bjork is a former 5th-round pick of Boston’s. The 24-year-old spent three seasons at Notre Dame where he put up 109 points in 115 career collegiate games. That offensive prowess has not translated much at the NHL level as his career high is 19 points in 58 games during the 2019-20 season.

Head coach Don Granato spent time with Bjork while coaching the USNDTP. In fact, Bjork is the second player acquired over the last week to have played under Granato in the past as the Sabres claimed Drake Caggiula off waivers as well.
