Free agency doesn’t open until 12 p.m. ET today, but one unrestricted free agent appears to be staying put in Buffalo.
According to Sportsnet Reporter Chris Johnston, the Sabres are closing in on a contract extension with forward Zemgus Girgensons.
Per Johnston, Girgensons’ deal with the Sabres is three-year deal with an average annual value of $2 million.
Grigensons was drafted 14th overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabres, and has played his entire seven-year career with the franchise.
In 498 NHL games, Grigensons he has collected 61 goals, 77 assists and 138 points. Last season, he amassed 12 goals, 7 assists and 19 points in 69 games. His 12 goals are his highest total since his career-year back in his second season.
