The Buffalo Sabres added yet another depth player to their roster today as they agreed to a one-year deal worth $700k with defenseman Casey Nelson.

Nelson began his professional career in the Sabres organization after going undrafted and spending three seasons at Minnesota State. While there, the right-handed defenseman 46 points in 99 career games.

At the end of the 2015-16 NCAA season, Nelson signed an entry level deal with Buffalo. He appeared in 7 games that year before splitting most of his time between Buffalo and Rochester over the next few seasons.

Nelson’s career-high in points was 8 in 37 games during the 2017-18 season, however he finished -14 and had a sub-.500 corsi. He spent 48 games in Rochester last season where he tallied 18 points.

It seems as if Nelson will be battling with fellow signees Matt Irwin and Brandon Davidson for a depth role in Buffalo as each signed a one-way deal.
