Racing in GM and Ford’s Backyard

The NASCAR Cup Series goes to the Irish Hills of Brooklyn, Michigan for double duty at Michigan International Speedway. The track is a little over 70 miles from Detroit where General Motors (Chevrolet) and Ford call home. That makes this a little bit of a big race weekend for them. One of the fastest tracks on the circuit where they are going over 200 MPH into the turns. Can be a very dangerous place to race. This weekend will also be the first time where we see the first points paying race to use the choose rule. The first race on Saturday is the makeup race from June then Sunday is as it was scheduled. NBCSN will have both races with both of them starting at 4 PM ET and 4:30 PM ET respectively. Why they are starting the race so late at a track with no lights is absolutely beyond me. Watch as we have to deal with a rain delay this weekend now.
So my longshot for this weekend is Chris Buescher (250/1 DKSB). Look I am probably picking this guy way to much, but I feel like he has better chances than his odds say. Roush-Fenway Racing used to come here and win a lot. That has changed in recent years, but if you are looking for a guy with big odds, look towards Buescher.
My underdog this week is Matt Dibendetto (40/1). Matty D has come so close to getting his first win and with the backing of Wood Brothers and Penske why not here. His satellite teammate won here last year so why not a guy who is his teammate?

The first race I am picking Kevin Harvick(4/1). He has won here at Michigan the past two years and with the season he is having why wouldn’t he make it three years.Watch for the closer in the final laps of this race.

The second race of the weekend I am going to roll with Joey Logano (8/1). Look yes I pretty much copied the two race winners from last year, but hear me out. Logano hasn’t won since the season halted after Phoenix. He needs the momentum to build and so why not here? Joey has three previous wins at this track and with them not having any practice I would expect him to be one of the better ones at this track.
