Yes, that picture you see below is the actual photo on my actual driver’s license (the picture on the right for Pete’s sake). This photo is next to arguably the most famous fictional (maybe even all-time) license photos of of all time of the character McLovin from the movie Superbad. I don’t understand how identities get stolen (I’d rather not learn from a first-hand experience) so I’m only gonna share the photo part of my ID.
You may be asking yourself why on God’s green earth am I still using a photo (I can use it until I’m 29) where I look like that, and to that, I have three answers.
- It’s funny
- It’s humbling
- It really looks just like McLovin
How can you look at that photo and not laugh? Hell, every single bouncer I give this to at a bar laughs or asks me about my astrology sign because it just doesn’t look right.
I could very easily get a new ID with an updated picture, but where is the fun in that (unless it’s illegal to look like McLovin and I have to pay a fine. That’s not fun and let the record show I do not want that to happen)
The odd looks I get from bouncers when they realize that is indeed my real ID, is something I always look forward to on a night out. And even showing it to my new friends who didn’t know me in high school is always one of my favorite things to do.
Some people have great party tricks with some really phenomenal talents, but I have my license.
I will be the first to tell you I was a bit of a late bloomer. I was a senior in high school and still looked like that. This really ties into the second point, this is humbling. This is not an era of my life I want to go back to in terms of how I looked.
Knowing I looked like that for the majority of my life is a good way to bring me back down to my roots when things are going a bit too well.
Remind me to never shave my head ever again.
Now with all of this being said there are no ifs, ands, or buts about it that this famous fictional ID (that I constantly see shirts of) looks just like high school me.
Now, you smart individuals at home may notice that I currently do not look like that dashing young fellow on the right. And you would be correct. This was my first license photo when I was around 17 years old, and the pandemic had me renew my ID when I turned 21. I don’t know what I expected when I renewed it online, but the state just gave me a new license with the same photo, so I called it a day.
I feel like I need to ride this fame as long as I can. When else will I be able to be a license lookalike with arguably the most famous license photo of all time?
