What a weekend at The Country Club! I didn’t expect Matt Fitzpatrick to pull it out but he proved me wrong. This year’s US Open had it all from brutally tough conditions to an exciting finish at a historic venue.
My guy Dustin Johnson couldn’t surge on the weekend but my biggest bet of the week hit (DJ to make the cut -250) which I still can’t believe existed. Other than that only Scottie Scheffler came through for me with his solid weekend.
Scores were high with only 9 players in the entire field finishing under par. This is what makes the US Open so fun to watch in my opinion and it’s what makes a tournament like the Travelers Championship not mean that much to me. It’s a tough act to follow but let’s look ahead to the Tour’s next stop: TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut.
The players don’t necessarily love the TPC courses. River Highlands is a stop every year for the PGA Tour however. The reigning champion is Harris English as he won in a playoff at -13 last year atop a less than stellar leaderboard.
In terms of bets this week I don’t have much that I like, it’s a weird week with it being right after the US Open. Justin Thomas has withdrawn from the event due to injury, along with all of the LIV players that aren’t playing due to the ban. I’m pretty much scratching and clawing for something to pick this week, but that’s okay!
Here are my official 2022 Travelers Championship picks:
0.5 unit on Kevin Kisner to finish top 20 +420
0.5 unit on Harris English to finish top 20 +420
1 unit on Scottie Scheffler to finish top 10 +140
2 units on Scottie Scheffler to finish top 20 -165
4 units on Joel Dahmen to make the cut -175
I’m going with Kisner because this is a perfect week for a guy like him to fly under the radar and make some money. This is a low interest tournament and that’s where he does best. The Harris English bet is purely because I like to at least have something on the reigning champ in most tournaments. Scottie Scheffler is the best player in the world and there’s no reason not to bet him in some facet every single week. Joel Dahmen played extremely well last week at the US Open and I have a good feeling about him and his confidence in himself going into the Travelers Championship. Happy betting/viewing everybody! Stay tuned for a “Muni Monday” this upcoming Monday where I highlight a local municipal course.
