Happy Mother’s Day to the hockey moms

As Mother’s Day 2024 comes to a close, I just want to thank all of the hockey moms (and non-hockey moms) out there.

For hockey moms, there is no offseason. I remember far too many Mother’s Days when my mom would have to drive me over an hour each way for me to get on the ice. A day that is supposed to be all about her, she still somehow found a way to put me first. We would get brunch together in the morning (a tradition still alive today), and then we would head to the freezing Leisure Rinks to waste the day away.

I am so thankful for the sacrifices she and countless other hockey moms made so their kid(s) could play the game they loved. She is the biggest inspiration in my life and my biggest supporter. I never have to worry about whether she will support what I am doing in life, and for that I am forever grateful for my mom.

So today I want to bring some attention to the wonderful people that are hockey moms.

I was blessed to be surrounded by so many incredible hockey moms growing up. So many of them still follow along with the dumb things I am up to and have become like another mother figure in my life.

Being “raised” by a handful of other hockey moms was honestly one of the best things that could have happened to me. I am sure some of you are reading this, and I just want to say thank you for everything.

You all helped mold me into the person I am today, and for that I am forever grateful and can never say thank you enough.

Now, for those of you who don’t have a hockey mom in your life, I will give you a brief synopsis of who they are.

Just like how cars run on gasoline, hockey moms run on a lack of sleep and plenty of booze. There is not another group of people that get after it quite like a group of hockey moms during a tournament. I am jealous of the friendships I’ve seen built by hockey moms, and they rival the ones formed by the players.

The amount of care they all have for most of the players is truly incredible.

Hockey moms are the true unsung heroes, and they deserve to receive so much love today and every single day. They go from long days at work only to head home and grab us and head to a freezing cold rink. That sucks if it happens once let alone about 200 days of the year.

Hockey moms are something truly awe-inspiring.
