Yes, I said it. The Greek Freak is overrated. Those MVP awards he won reminded me of when Steve Nash robbed Kobe of the award back in 2006. I understand the MVP is a regular season award, but they should factor in the playoffs. If that was the case, Giannis has failed every year. Milwaukee fell to the Kawhi led Raptors in 2019, only won one game against the Heat.
I guess you could call me a hater. All Giannis does is take one dribble after he passes half court and dunks it. Looking at his numbers, they remind me more of Shaquille O’Neal’s numbers. I feel like I have been having the same conversation with my two buddies for the past couple of years. Teams will sag on Giannis and force him to take jumpers. Credit to Giannis for working on his jumper. If you look at his field goal percentage the last three years, they have gone up from .554 to .641 for the 2018 season, .631 for the 2019 season, and .642 so far during the 2020 season. Very misleading because good chance he is just converting on more dunks and shots from inside the paint. If you look at his three-point percentage, it has fluctuated, with Giannis only shooting above 30 percent two times in his career (2017 and 2019).
So, where am I going with this? Giannis’ jumper does not scare opposing teams. All we have to do is look back to the Bucks loss from this past Wednesday. Giannis exploded for 47 points, but it was not enough as the Bucks lost 125-124. Giannis was 15-23 from the field, including 0-4 from beyond the arc. Giannis had the ball in his hands at the end of the game and decided to settle for an 18-foot jump shot instead of driving it to the hoop.
All you have to do is check out Devin Booker’s post game presser.
Until Giannis wins an NBA Championship or proves to the Association that he can make a jump shot consistently and is an athletic center who can dominate in the paint, are you terrified if this guy is about to pull up?
