The stage was set for a prized fight at UB Stadium as the Miami (OH) RedHawks came to town to visit the Buffalo Bulls.
In one corner was the Miami (OH) RedHawks, the preseason coaches poll favorite. In the other corner were the Buffalo Bulls, the preseason media poll favorites.
The Bulls may have won the MAC coaches over as they pummeled the RedHawks 42-10 in a statement on Tuesday night.
Here are some sights and signs from the game.
He said it:
“It was staying true to who I am as a quarterback and who we are as an offense. Finding the throws that are open, trusting the guys that we’ve got blocking, trusting the guys that are going to make the catch. We always say, ‘remember your training and fall back to the level of your training. That’s been huge for us, and that was huge for us tonight.”
Buffalo Bulls quarterback Kyle Vantrease on his impressive performance
KVT or MVP?:
After a quiet first quarter, junior quarterback Kyle Vantrease settled in and left his mark on the UB record books.
Vantrease completed 17-of-27 passes for 353 yards and four touchdowns. It was the first 300-yard game of his career and also the first time a UB quarterback has thrown for 300 yards in a game since Tyree Jackson on Oct. 30, 2018, against Miami (OH).
Have yourself a day, kid.
Gruesome Two-some:
Junior running backs Kevin Marks Jr. and Jaret Patterson continue to slash and gash opposing defenses of the MAC.
Marks Jr. finished the game with 16 carries for 109 yards and helped set the tone for a UB offense. Patterson carried the ball 20 times for 73 yards and two touchdowns.
Patterson became the fifth running back in UB history to rush for 3,000 career yards – the fastest running back to reach this feat. He also has four touchdowns in two games this season.
With Marks and Patterson mixing it up in the backfield for the Bulls, can anyone stop them?
Nunn-ya Business:
Senior wide receiver Antonio Nunn is a speedy receiver that has a knack for catching a deep ball.
He found a mismatch in the RedHawks secondary and turned on the jets for an 82-yard touchdown reception.
Last week against NIU, Nunn had his 3rd career 100-yard game. Tonight was his fourth career 100-yard game. He finished with a career-high 137 yards on five receptions and one touchdown.
It could be a very long day for the Bowling Green secondary next Tuesday.
Up Next:
The Bulls will travel to Bowling Green, Ohio to take on the Falcons (0-2, 0-2 MAC). They are coming off of a 62-24 loss to Kent State (2-0, 2-0 MAC). They also rank last in the MAC in total defense having allowed 524 yards of total offense.
