This Friday the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will have their final race – the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Championship. It all goes down at Phoenix Raceway, under the lights, to determine a champion. Four drivers will duke it out and whoever finishes the highest will take home the trophy. No points or tricks, just straight up whoever crosses the line first will be the 2021 Camping World Truck Series champion.
The stage being set, let’s have a look at the competitors.
John Hunter Nemechek
John Hunter Nemechek is one of the best drivers in the truck series. He was the regular-season points champion which helped him get here. The driver of the Kyle Busch Motorsports 4 has five wins, 12 top fives, and 15 top 10s on the year. His best previous finish in the Truck series is eighth in both 2016 and 2017. Nemechek is going to be the favorite going into the weekend.
Zane Smith
With his back against the wall and the odds against him, he got the job done as he won Martinsville to clinch his spot in the Championship 4. That was his lone win on the year and half of his top 5s. He was very consistent when getting top 10s though as he had 13 on the year. Zane Smith was in this situation last year as he was in the Championship 4. He came up just short losing out to teammate Sheldon Creed. This year no Creed and he is the only GMS truck going for it this time around.
Matt Crafton
Matt Crafton is back in the Championship 4 going for his fourth Truck Series Championship. He’s winless on the year, but he also had no wins in his 2019 Championship year as well. Crafton has been Mr. Consistent on the year and that has led him to his fourth Championship 4 appearance. The 45-year-old is without a doubt the oldest of the four in the Championship round, meaning the experience for the “old man of the series” is there.
Ben Rhodes
Ben Rhodes is having the best year of his career in the Truck Series. He started in Daytona by winning both races. Since then no wins but has maintained his points to get him here now. Seven top 5s and 15 top 10s to go along with his two wins to start the year. Rhodes has not finished above fifth in his Truck Series career. This is his first time making it to the Championship 4.
Championship Pick…
A tough one to pick, but I think John Hunter Nemechek will lift the trophy for the first time in his career.
