The Buffalo Bills have officially signed veteran running back Devonta Freeman to the practice squad, per multiple reports. The move comes just three days after running back Zack Moss suffered a season-ending ankle injury in a 27-24 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Wild Card playoff round.
Last night, Maniac of Trainwreck Sports reported that a source disclosed to Trainwreck Sports that Devonta Freeman had arrived in Buffalo for a visit.
Freeman signed with the Giants on Sept. 22 following Saquon Barkley’s season-ending knee injury. He had 54 carries for 172 yards and a touchdown in five games and added seven catches for 58 yards before an ankle injury placed him on injured reserve Nov. 13.
Before the 2020 playoffs, a player cut or unsigned after a tryout had to wait six days to join a new team. This made it difficult for teams to get a player ready for the upcoming week. Recently, the NFL Management Council and NFL Players Association agreed to unlimited practice-squad elevations without a player having to clear waivers, and any current player in the official NFL testing system can travel between teams and cities without having to restart the testing process if he remains in the testing system and travels privately.
Freeman joins a Bills rushing attack that ranked 20th in total rushing offense. Behind Moss and Devin Singletary, the Bills averaged 4.19 yards per carry to go along with 1,723 total yards and 16 touchdowns. They also averaged 107.7 yards per game.
