AEW Dynamite Under Pressure to Deliver at Dynamite #250, Or Are They?

FOLKS! Happy start to your humpday as we take on one of the DOGGIEST days of the Summer. No Baseball, no NBA/NHL and NFL still atleast a week away from meaning anything remotely interesting or of value.

However, if you’re looking for sports and entertainment tonight you’re in luck as AEW closes in on 5 years of Dynamites with episode #250. As you see, we’ve got a solid card going into tonight… for reference, let’s see what RAW and Smackdown 250 were rolling out there for the audience.

As you can see, these shows didn’t exactly tear the house down…some interesting notes with Edge in a single dark match in March ’98 and Vega wrestling two dark matches/1 and the main event? The RAW had under a half hour of actual wrestling btw.

So from their historical counterparts, AEW is under no pressure tonight… but as far as their TV deal and pending negotiations that would seem like a different story. It’s been known since the beginning of the year that TK and co. are working to solidify the next generational deal for AEW, and despite recent good booking some numbers have ‘fans’ worried.

However, this lifetime Dynamite chart doesn’t count for the fact that in recent weeks AEW is up and even RAW this week took a hit…

So we’ve painted the picture. AEW ratings were plummeting at the beginning of this year, but ‘seem’ to be course correcting with the booking and entertaining story telling. WWE is even down a little bit and it seems like the landscape of professional wrestling (outside of Stamford, CT) is just as crazy and fluid as it’s ever been.

Working to get a new deal does put them under pressure from Tony Khan to Christopher Daniels, but no different than any pressure faced by athletes and organizations all over the world. Ultimately, it’s on the roster and especially the superstars to night to keep AEW’s momentum going into the 2H of the Summer.
