McAdoo’s Top Five Christmas Movies

BY: ZACH MCADOO

Thanks to Trainwreck Sports’ very own Maniac, who sent a tweet saying that Jim Carey’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas was a top 5 Christmas movie. By the way, I am still waiting for the rest of the list. I had to go back and think about the different movies I have watched and where I thought they should be ranked. Here is the final list for the year 2020.

Honorable Mention: Mickey’s Once and Twice Upon a Christmas

Look, I am a big Disney fan, so I have to make a spot for a Mickey Christmas special on here. How can you not love the different stories in the two movies? From a “Gift of the Magi” variation to Goofy’s son Max going from being the less optimistic one in believing in Santa to having to prove to his dad that Santa exists.

No. 5: National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

Ok, I had never seen this movie beginning to end before this year, and I heard many people say that it was the best Christmas movie ever. It is a good movie, no doubt, but not the best one ever. I think that maybe the stuff has been dated, and so the stuff doesn’t click as much to me as others, or maybe people just put my expectations for it too high, and it didn’t meet them.

No. 4: The Santa Clause series

I honestly have to include all three of these movies in this list. I am a fan of the latter two more than the first, and I know some people have said that I am wrong for that opinion. Look, I think Tim Allen is a great actor, and his role as Scott Calvin/Santa in these movies is great. Then Martin Short in the third movie made a great villain for the movie. I don’t know how we didn’t get a fourth movie in the series, but it is what it is.

No. 3: Fred Claus

I know some people will be wondering why this movie is so high on my list, here is why. How can you not love Vince Vaughan in this movie? He was super funny in this, and all the scenes with him fighting the elves were excellent. Then you add in Paul Giamatti, and that only makes the movie better. The only downfall of the movie is the guy who plays Clyde Northcutt.

No. 2: Elf

How can Elf not be in a Christmas movie top five? Will Ferrell absolutely killed it as Buddy the Elf. From beginning to end, Ferrell just kept everyone laughing. I mean, can you name another Christmas movie that is funnier?

No 1: The Polar Express

Give me a movie that makes you believe in the spirit of Christmas, like The Polar Express. The animation in the movie was great. The additional storyline to the original story (I keep forgetting that it is a children’s book) keeps people entertained. I have said this a lot before, and I absolutely mean this, if you hate The Polar Express, you hate Christmas.
