This year we have had fewer sporting events and more time to find other things to watch. I honestly was glad that the MLB and NFL both allowed us to watch old games on their apps that you have to pay for. When sports returned, though, I took in as much as I could. One of the moments took the cake as my favorite, and it starts a little sad.
On May 19, Chase Briscoe was getting ready to race in the first race back for the NASCAR Xfinity Series since the COVID-19 break. His wife Marissa had an OBGYN appointment for a checkup on her pregnancy. She received terrible news about their child. The doctors told Marissa that she had a miscarriage and the baby died. This was one day after finding out that they were having a girl.
The race was rained out and rescheduled for Thursday. That day the race started, and with about 50 laps to go, Briscoe found himself in the lead. The driver behind him, though, was a hard-charging, mad Kyle Busch. Briscoe did what he could, and while coming to the white flag, Briscoe tapped the wall with his quarter panel, which allowed Busch to close upright on him. The two went into one, and Briscoe in the preferred lane would keep Busch behind him. Busch had one last chance in turns three and four. Busch went as low as he could to try to get to Briscoe’s bumper, but it wasn’t enough. Chase Briscoe won at Darlington just 48 hours after learning that he lost his daughter. When Briscoe got out of his car, you could see the emotion on his face. This meant a lot to him. He knelt to the ground next to his car in an image I will never forget.
Words can’t explain the emotions I felt today. All I have to say is we have a powerful God and I know His hand was in all of this. Thank you so much everyone. pic.twitter.com/z572Khkew3

He said that this win means more to him in his post-race interview than if he won the Daytona 500, which should speak volumes for a NASCAR driver. I can’t lie. I teared up watching Briscoe win. I wanted him to win after what he dealt with that week, and for him to win and for him to hold off one of the best in the business in doing it.
