Sabres select John-Jason Peterka in second round of NHL Draft

The Buffalo Sabres continue to add forward depth to its prospect pipeline.

The Sabres select left wing John-Jason Peterka with the 34th pick in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft. Buffalo sent its 38th pick and 100th pick to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for the 34th pick .

Last season, the 18-year old German scored seven goals, four assists and 11 points in 42 games for the EHC Red Bull Munich of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DHL).

“I think I’m a creative offensive player, who likes to make plays and score goals, both playmaker and scorer, “Peterka said. “From my first pro season I got a lot of experience, especially in defensive zones and battle experience, especially in playing against older men.”

In 2018, he compiled 45 goals, 49 assists and 94 total points as a member of the Red Bull Hickey Akademie U19 team.

The 5-foot-11, 192 pound forward has been labeled by the 2020 Elite Prospects Draft Guide as a, “violent and disruptive player,” and has an “unrelenting motor that is a force multiplier in every zone.”
