Brandon Beane made his first big move in free agency as the Buffalo Bills sign WR Josh Palmer from the Los Angeles Chargers on three-year, $36 million deal with $18 million guaranteed.

At just 25 years old, Palmer is coming off a season where he posted 39 catches for 584 yards and a touchdown. Over his career, he’s played in 58 games, racking up 182 receptions for over 2,200 yards and 10 touchdowns. Palmer ranks highly in separation stats, adding an element to the Bills’ wide receiver room that they haven’t had in years.
Last season, they brought in Amari Cooper midseason hoping he’d be that guy, but Cooper didn’t pan out. He doesn’t have as much left in the tank. This move feels like a direct response to that. Instead, the Bills bring in a young receiver who can get open and create space, with room to grow in his career.
This also fits into what the Bills seem to be building in their WR room—different guys with different skill sets, creating a basketball-style lineup where each receiver brings something unique.
Buffalo already had one of the league’s most effective offenses, and now they’re giving Josh Allen another weapon. Palmer wasn’t putting up crazy numbers with Justin Herbert, but maybe a fresh start with Allen will help unlock another level in his game.
So, that’s the Bills’ first big move in free agency. You have to think the rest of the way; their focus shifts to the defensive side, whether in free agency or the draft.
