We need One Direction diss tracks

The Drake and Kendrick Lamar diss tracks have swept over the internet over the past few days. Nothing beats airing your dirty laundry out to the masses, and it made me think that we really missed out not having One Direction diss tracks released.

Before we get too deep into things, if this blog makes it to the 1D stans, just know I am a big fan and direct all mean tweets to @ZachSheldon.

We will explore this blog in two directions (no pun intended). Why releasing some diss tracks now is the best course of action, and who would even win this battle?

Right now

The group decided to go on their 18-month “hiatus” eight years ago now. In that time, all the members have released solo albums and done their best to make it on their own.

All of the boys’ solo careers started off pretty hot with award winning albums and songs for a majority of the members. Since the initial releases, things have slowly gone a bit downhill for everyone with songs and albums not having the same hype behind them.

Now would be the perfect time to drum up interest again.

The acknowledgment of One Direction from members in the band is beyond barren. The occasional tweet of support from Louis or Liam always draws in big numbers and conversations, but we never see anything more than that.

Could you imagine what a couple songs would do?

Harry and Niall (Zayn to a microscopic extent) are the only ones with major drawing power right now. Styles is on top of the world in everything he does, but his albums haven’t been getting any better. Harry’s House was good, but it had nothing on HS1 and Fine Line. Niall’s a great addition to the Voice, but again his best songs were his earlier ones.

The most hype around the group came around the 10-year anniversary of One Direction in 2020 with new posts to the main social media pages. Rumors were spreading across the fandom about how it could be a precursor to a reunion, and we even saw old 1D songs hit the hot-100 chart again.

As much as I want a reunion, we are probably a long way from that being a possibility. But some songs talking about the band? That should definitely be in the works.

For being as pubic as the group was, not too much about the inner-working or how the boys truly felt is known. What better way to get some more streams on everyone’s music than a couple songs either about hushed parts of their past or even calling someone out for who they are now.

Songs showing the bad would paint the group in a new picture to a new audience.

Nobody can drag him down

I feel like there is only one answer that makes sense here, and it’s Louis Tomlinson. He by far and away wrote the most songs when the band was together, and has had some underrated albums in his solo career.

Hell, his one song “Habit” has all the rumors of being about Harry Styles and the line “We’ve come so far from Princess Park” is a fan favorite during concerts. Louis’ only downfall is he doesn’t have the same reach that the other members has, but that is why this makes sense.

Do I think every boy would release a song? No chance on Earth (unless it was all staged I would be all for that too). But a song or two from Louis and/or Liam I think would shoot One Direction and all of its members back into the spotlight.

This idea is very messy but at this rate I’d take messy over no acknowledgement at all.
