Welcome to our Bills week 2 recap. For a full podcast breakdown, Maniac discussed week 2 with Ryan Talbot and Brother Bill on Trainwreck Tonight on Monday, check it out here.
The most mature Josh Allen we’ve ever seen
Josh Allen took profits. He didn’t take unnecessary chances, he got the ball to his playmakers in space and let them do the work. 3-4 yard gains were considered a win for Allen on Sunday. That’s the patience, poise and maturity Bills fans were expecting to see out of Allen when they came out of the gates in Week 1.
He spread the ball around to all of his targets, nobody had more than 100 yards receiving. Everyone had a big moment and a catch that made a difference on a drive.
Everything was working for Allen. He seemed under control and in command. Essentially the exact opposite of last Monday. For my money, this is the real Josh Allen.
He needs to get better at collecting himself in high-pressure moments. That poise or lack thereof will be the biggest difference between perennial playoff and perennial Super Bowl contenders. He’s young. He’s still learning. But to have the focus and the bounce back that Allen had Sunday speaks volumes to the player and leader he’s become.
We’ll continue our Bills week 2 recap with more notes below.
BILLS NOTES FROM WEEK 2
- Hailee Steinfeld in Orchard Park!?
- Stefon Diggs is the heart and soul of the Bills
- James Cook breakout! I was so happy to see Jimmy finally be able to break free and put up one of the best all-around games in recent Bills history. The use of all 3 backs in this game was encouraging, but Cook displaying his game-breaking ability was the best sign.
- Greg Rousseau is a superstar. When Von Miller returns, this will easily be the best defensive line the Bills have had under McBeane.
- Good bounce back, Gabe. Even if it looked like Josh forced that TD to you.
- Spencer Brown have a day!
- The speed in the secondary remains concerning.
- Why can’t the Bills stop scripted first drives?
OTHER NFL THOUGHTS
- Something is wrong with Kansas City’s offense and it might be losing Eric Bieniemy
- I told y’all the Bengals can’t beat Lamar
- And I told y’all that when healthy, the Ravens are the class of the AFC North.
- Lamar Jackson is reminding the league now though. Monkens offense has been such a positive change and modernized their attack. The Ravens are real.
- Jalen Hurts has the easiest QB job in football.
- If the Niners had an above-average QB they’d be unstoppable.
- Jordan Love missed the opportunity for all the hype in the world with a late game-winning drive, but been impressive so far nonetheless.
- Brian Daboll should always call plays.
- Trevor Lawrence still has growing up to do.
- The Chargers are frauds. The Vikings are frauds. We get a fraud off this week!
- The Patriots gave good defenses a blueprint to eliminate Hill and slow down the Dolphins.
- But Tua passed all the tests yet again. His command is impressive.
- I feel so bad for you, Jets fans.
- If Rodgers does come back by January, ayahuasca use is about to be all the craze in 2024.
