The Open Recap and The 3M Open

What a week at St. Andrews! Cam Smith put together one of the best Sunday performances in a major that we have ever seen with an 8 under par 64 at The Old Course, doing it with a 30 on the back nine. It seemed like he literally could not miss a putt out there and his performance was enough to take down Rory Mcilroy and Cam Young.

The entire golf world seemed to want Rory to win, he is local and he is very outspoken lately. Everybody seems to have anointed him as the voice of reason in the golf world. This is where I usually start to dislike somebody. I have always liked Rory but since everyone started drooling about him in the last year I have pretty much sworn him off and because of this, I was pumped to see everyone disappointed on Sunday. Not to mention Cam Smith is an AWESOME guy. He rocks a mullet and wears the Original Penguin brand on his chest, he loves to fish and crush beers, he seems like a guy you want to play golf with.

Smith’s up and down on hole 17 was a sight to behold as he had no other reasonable option but to putt the ball around a massive pot bunker to about 15 feet. Of course he drained the putt and that effectively allowed him to keep the momentum rolling into 18 where he birdied from the infamous “Valley of Sin”.

Looking ahead to Minneapolis this week with the 3M open, it is always a tough act to follow when you are the tournament right after a major championship. TPC Twin Cities is another one of those courses that the guys don’t love playing.

Last year Cameron Champ took home the over a million dollar prize with a score of -15. I will definitely have him on my betting list this week. With this being a pretty weak field, I don’t have much that I am too confident in in terms of betting. I am going to say that Adam Hadwin will play well, he finished T6 last year and I like the idea of a Canadian guy playing well in Minnesota.

Some guys I am less confident in but confident enough to place a bet on are Tony Finau and Sahith Theegala. Once again I love Theegala’s game and I think he is going to continue to play great golf for the rest of the year. Finau is simply because I believe he is the best player in the field.

Since this is an objectively lame tournament, that’s all I have by way of bets this week. Here are my official picks for the 2022 3M Open:

– 1 Unit on Tony Finau to finish Top 20 at -160
– 1 Unit on Adam Hadwin to finish Top 20 at +100
– 1 Unit on Sahith Theegala to finish Top 20 at +100
– 1 Unit on Cameron Champ to finish Top 20 at +220
