The Charles Schwab Challenge had a dramatic finish with a playoff between Sam Burns and Scottie Scheffler. For those who took Scottie to win the tournament, they were met with shock when Sam Burns sunk a 38 foot birdie putt to put the pressure on and eventually win the playoff.
Sam Burns followed Justin Thomas’ PGA Championship blueprint of taking advantage of the tough conditions and surging up the leaderboard on Sunday with a -5 score of 65 while everybody else seemed to have a rough go of it.
If you took my picks of Spieth and Scheffler to finish top 10, you were made happy on Sunday. Jordan Spieth had a rollercoaster finish as he went into the clubhouse tied for 11th place and managed to rise up the leaderboard as everybody ahead of him finished up their rounds in the tough Texas wind. Due to the chaos, Spieth made it up to 7th place and came through with his Top 10 finish.
As I feared, Bryson DeChambeau did not play this week, withdrawing on the Wednesday before the event. His wrist injury continues to plague him throughout this PGA Tour Season but hopefully we get to see him back out on the course hitting bombs again soon.
This next week, the Tour visits Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. The historic venue is the host of The Memorial Tournament every year. Look out for a preview of this event in the next coming days before it begins, along with a preview of “The Match” on Wednesday featuring Josh Allen.
