Fantasy Baseball: Three Players You Need to Pick-up Right Now! (Week 3)

BY: SOME GUY NAMED STEVE

Folks, it’s week three of the pick-ups of the week and this week we got some great adds for you! Week three features a couple power hitters to add to your lineups and young pitcher to add to your rotation!

Jesus Aguilar: Miami Marlins 1B/DH (39.6% ESPN Ownership)

The first player on this week’s list is the power hitting first baseman, Jesus Aguilar. Aguilar has been a good source of power over the course of his career and in the shortened season last year he was able to bat .277 and hit eight home runs in only 51 games. Aguilar flew under the radar to start this season as he didn’t hit a single home run in his first 17 games. However, Aguilar has homered in four of his last five games and has jumped up to the 9th-ranked first basemen in ESPN leagues. On the season Jesus Aguilar is now batting .292 with four home runs, 19 RBI’s, 11 runs scored, and a slugging percentage of .833. Aguilar bats in the heart of the Marlins lineup, plays everyday, and has legitimate 30 home run potential. If you need power and Aguilar is available in your league he is a must add.

J.D. Davis: New York Mets 3B/DH (29.4% ESPN Ownership)

The next player on today’s list is another power hitter who has also flown under the radar, but for a completely different reason. J.D. Davis started the year on the IL and although he is a very good hitter, there was a lot of concern about playing time coming into the season. Since he has been activated from the IL, Davis has started in seven of the nine games and has hit the ball very well. Davis has a slash line of .394/.459/.636 with two home runs, two doubles, and six RBI’s. Davis has a hit in all but one game this season and will continue to be a staple in the Mets lineup if he continues to hit. I really like picking up Davis because he has the potential to get even better as the season goes on. At age 28, Davis is entering the prime of his career and as long as he gets regular at bats Davis will provide your teams with power while flirting with a .300 average.

Brady Singer: Kansas City Royals SP (34.1% ESPN Ownership)

If you read last week’s article you would’ve seen that Danny Duffy was one of my favorite pick-ups of the week. Well guess what? We are going with another Royals pitcher for my final player that you must add this week, and that is Brady Singer. At just 24-years-old, Brady Singer is starting to have a breakout season for the Royals. As a rookie last year, Singer went 4-5 with a 4.06 ERA and 61 strikeouts over 64.1 innings. This season, Singer has taken his game to another level. So far this year, Singer is 1-2 in four starts with a 2.95 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and 25 strikeouts over 21.1 innings. Although those numbers are solid they are inflated by his first start where Singer gave up five runs to the Texas Rangers in just 3.1 innings. Since that start, Singer has been lights out. In his most recent three starts Singer has thrown 18 innings, struck out 20 batters, and allowed only two runs. Singer’s next start is Friday at the Twins, so if you need a starting pitcher for the weekend, I would highly recommend seeing if Brady Singer is available in your league.
