Wake’s Season Record: 16-8 (+4.71 units)
Yesterday’s Picks:
Bruins Regulation ML (-110) ❌
Maple Leafs/Canadiens O6.5 (EVEN) ❌
NHL Grand Salami – Away Goals (-130) ✅
So maybe I used that Old School reference a little too soon yesterday. I went chose the Bruins in regulation, despite a growing trend I’ve seen in big time home underdogs. The Leafs forgot how to play hockey for the first 14 minutes of their game, and then scored some quick ones, and then missed an empty netter that would’ve been my 7th goal. That’s life betting on the Leafs. Just don’t do it. I’ll bet an under before I bet on the Leafs again. But I’m 3-0 on the Grand Salami this year, so I’m gonna stay positive!
Today’s Free Money
Winnipeg Jets -1.5 (+110)
The Winnipeg Jets are the best team in the NHL covering the spread at home (7-1), while the Ottawa Senators are bottom 5 covering on the road (1-6). There’s not amazing value here, but the reality is that Matt Murray won’t keep playing so well forever. Also, my friends and I have learned one major lesson this year betting on the NHL: never bet against Connor Hellebuyck in any way, shape or form. His stats don’t show it this year, but that guy is one of the best goalies in the league. He’s kept the Jets in some crazy games, and he won’t have much trouble against the Senators, who are 29th in the NHL with 2.21 goals/game. Winnipeg’s Top 10 offense should have its way with a team that allows a league him 4.14 goals/game. No other team is over four in that regard.
Blackhawks ML (-115)
I won’t try to get cute with the regulation money line in this one like I have the past two days. The Blackhawks and Blue Jackets split their two previous meetings, and I like Chicago to take their second in a row against Columbus. They really seem to have something in Kevin Lankinen, while the Blue Jackets are rolling with Joonas Korpisalo, who’s failing to live up to the standard he set in the NHL Playoff Bubble last season. The Blackhawks earned points in each of their last five games (4-0-1) and they’re 4-1 at home on the year. Meanwhile, the Blue Jackets have struggled on the road, coming into tonight with a 2-3 record.
Flames/Canucks Over 6 (-115)
Any time I can get a Canucks game total at an even 6 with better than -120 odds, I’m gonna hop all over it. They’re the hottest team in the league when it comes to hitting the over (10-6) and it’s pretty similar to the Jameis Winston Buccaneers. They’ve got terrible defense (3.94 GAA) and an average offense that needs to score just to keep up (3.06 GFA). The Flames won the last two meetings, one 3-0 and the other 5-2, so the over hit one of those two times. Specifically, the over hit in the game that Thatcher Demko started, and he’s who should be between the pipes tonight for the Vancouver Canucks.
