Throughout the years, the Sabres have had some really good and really bad uniforms. With the Sabres scheduled to debut their Reverse Retro jerseys on Feb. 20 versus the Devils (hopefully), let’s take a look back at the best alternate jerseys the Sabres have worn over the years.
5.) 50th Anniversary (2019-20)
The Sabres introduced these jerseys to celebrate the team’s 50th season in the NHL. Adidas added some incredible detail in the buffalo crest, which added a whole different aspect to this jersey. The metallic gold striping was a perfect touch for the Golden Season uniform. Also, the white gloves were a CLEAN look.
4. 40th Anniversary 2010-12)
Royal blue is always a home run when it comes to Sabres uniforms. The Sabres nailed the throwback look with the combination of royal blue and the old school wood mark crest and number style. I’m not sure if they went with four gold stripes on the sleeves and bottom of the jersey to symbolize four decades of Sabres hockey, but if it was intentional, then that’s a cool little feature of the uniform.
3. Reverse Retro (2021-Present)
Although they have yet to wear them on the ice, these jerseys are fantastic. When the NHL announced teams were going to debut Reverse Retro jerseys, Sabres fans were hoping for a red and black sweater. But this did not disappoint one bit. This jersey gives the Sabres another way to wear whites at home and it is going to look absolutely incredible.
2. 2018 Winter Classic (2018 season)
When the Sabres announced they were returning to royal blue, I was hoping they would bring back a revised look to these uniforms. The striping on this jersey is unbelievable and is one of my favorite Sabres uniforms of all-time.
1. Red and Black Butter Knives (2000-2006)
This jersey brings a different kind of swagger to Sabres hockey. One of my earliest memories of watching the Sabres as a kid was watching them stomp over the Los Angeles Kings in a 10-1 win while they were wearing these uniforms. This was the very first Sabres alternate jersey when the league let teams have more than two sweaters. If the Sabres decide to bring back a throwback jersey, this better be in serious consideration.
