McDavid and Nugent-Hopkins were skating into each other. The Oilers all did their best Ristolainen impressions, failing to register shots on FOUR different two-on-ones. They were missing easy passes and open nets all night long. Sometimes, things are just beyond your control. Luckily, I put in a fourth bet: the Tampa Bay regulation money line. And that made me positive for the night.
Of course, that doesn’t count for these articles. I’m now 12-6, which is still respectable, but I gotta pick things up. I’m 4-5 over the last three days, which means it’s time for me to get back to my roots, and find some free money.
Today’s Free Money
Lightning -1.5 (+155)
Like I said, my fourth bet last night was Tampa Bay to win in regulation, and they did that quite easily. The Nashville Predators were completely outmatched and only mustered 24 shots on goal. While I love their reverse retro jerseys, I don’t love their chances tonight. Tampa Bay won the three games between these teams thus far, two of those wins coming by at least two goals.
Nashville is bottom five in the NHL covering the spread at home (2-4). If they looked so apathetic coming off two days of rest, I can’t imagine how they’ll look tonight. I personally would’ve priced this closer to +130, so there’s a lot of value here in my eyes. 91 percent of the money is on Tampa to win, so clearly the public and sharps alike are high on the Lightning to win tonight. I’m high on them to cover.
Golden Knights REG ML (-165)
I was really rooting for Robin Lehner, but so far, Marc-Andre Fleury looks like the superior goaltender. The flower is likely to start tonight, and he’s yet to lose a game this season. That’s no fluke by the way. He’s looking more and more like the Stanley Cup Winning player from over a decade ago. Opposite him will be John Gibson, who’s been solid this year, despite his supporting cast doing little to help.
These teams have met twice this year and Vegas took both of those contests. They won the first game 5-2 and the second in overtime by a score of 2-1. Some teams have improved since the start of the season, but Anaheim isn’t one of them. They’re a middling team that I have faith the Golden Knights will hand in the 60 minutes.
Sharks/Kings Over 5.5 (-120)
Before I even look at the betting lines, I do some research on every game so I make sure I leave no stone unturned. Upon seeing the projected goalie matchup of Martin Jones and Jonathan Quick I was just hoping that this game wasn’t set at 6.5. These teams… I just don’t know if they’re good enough to hit an over that high. But 5.5? I’ll take my chances. These goalies give up nearly 8 goals/game between the two of them. That’s all I need to make this bet.
