I know I would. The 31-year-old is a free agent for the first time in his career, and he has the opportunity to join any NFL franchise he so chooses. Now the chances of him resigning with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are highly likely, but what if. What if Gronk wanted to return to Buffalo, NY, and play with a quarterback in Josh Allen who took tremendous steps in his third professional season. Can you imagine what this offense would look like?
Let me guess, you haven’t forgiven Gronk for his hit on Tre White from a couple of seasons ago. Not a lot of people have. All you have to do is go on twitter whenever someone brings up the possibility of Gronk returning to the home land and it’s just videos of the hit on repeat.
Then you see the arguments that Gronk really isn’t a true Buffalonian because he transferred to Woodland Hills in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and didn’t finish his high school career at Williamsville North. So let me ask you if you had the opportunity to play against better competition and get more college looks, would you go? If you have the best interest in your child’s athletic career, then yes. Staying at Will North and dominating WNY football would have been like accepting a participation trophy.
Gronk is arguably one of the best tight ends to ever play the game. His ability to run block is tremendous, and we all know how lethal of a weapon he is when he becomes a receiver. Taking that one season off might have been the best thing for him. If Gronk joined the Bills at the age of 32, he would provide an immediate threat down the middle of the field that they have been lacking since, I don’t know, you tell me. Imagine Gronk running a slant down the middle, Beasley running a crossing pattern underneath, and both Diggs and McKenzie running go patterns down the sidelines.
Love him or hate him, he is one of the best ever to play the game at his position. I would welcome Gronk back to Buffalo with open arms.
