Wake’s Season Record: 11-4 (+3.79 units)
Yesterday’s Picks:
Kings/Knights O5.5 (-120) ✅
Blackhawks +1.5 (-175) ✅
Red Wings/Panthers O5.5 ❌
Griess Griess Baby
My only loss yesterday came in the game featuring the Florida Panthers and the Detroit Red Wings. And you know what, I stand by that bet. There were 76 shots on two goalies with save percentages below .900. 99 percent of the time a game like that goes over, and Thomas Griess doesn’t stand on his head for 60 minutes of hockey. I expected it to be a fun, weird, chippy kind of game, and that’s what we got. The crazy thing is Florida actually almost scored with 2 seconds left to give me my third perfect day since I started putting these picks out.
While I was hoping the Sabres would be back in action by now, I guess I’ll just have to get through tonight by watching these bets pan out.

Hurricanes/Blue Jackets O5.5 (-124)
This was so close to taking the place of that pesky Detroit/Florida over, so I might be overcompensating for my losses by betting this one. Maybe, maybe not. Take yesterday out of the equation and I still love this game to hit the over. The Hurricanes are turning to Alex Nedeljkovic in net, who will be playing in just his seventh career game and first of this season. Carolina drafted him in the second round of the 2014 NHL Draft, but he’s struggled to live up to that high draft status (for a goalie that is). Joonas Korpisalo will play between the pipes for Columbus, and he’s had a rough go over his first eight games, only accumulating a .899 SV%. Overs have hit in four out of six Columbus home games this year. That trend will continue tonight.
Oilers/Senators O6.5 (-124)
Don’t look now (really, don’t) but the Senators are coming off two games against the Montreal Canadiens where they actually looked competitive. It took three weeks, but the young Ottawa core is starting to gel and get some great offensive chances. Tonight they’ll be tested by Mike Smith, who, like Alex Nedeljkovic, is making his first start of the year. You’ll remember Mike Smith from hits like “The Butt Goal” and “Not Being Very Good”! On the other side, Matt Murray will enter this game with a hilarious 4.10 GAA. Any game with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl has the chance to go over, and I wouldn’t be shocked if Edmonton (7-4-1 on the Over this year) won this bet on their own.
Maple Leafs -1.5 (+116)
The fact that this has plus odds is pretty incredible. Both teams are below average against the spread, so somethings gonna give in this game. But what will it be? In my eyes, it’ll be the same storyline we’ve seen with these two teams so far in this series, and in the game before these two teams met last Thursday. In those three games, the Canucks lost by a total of 10 goals (5-3 against Montreal, 7-3 & 5-1 against Toronto). I’m not going to say that Freddy Anderson is that much better than Braden Holtby, but the Canucks really are the Sabres of the West. They have young talented players and a lethargic defense. I’m confident this will be the fourth consecutive game in which the Canucks don’t cover the spread.
