Wake’s Season Record: 3-0 (I just started yesterday. So just… okay?)
Yesterday’s Picks:
Tampa Bay Lightning -1.5 (-135) ✅
Lighting/Red Wings Over 5.5 Goals (-125) ✅
NHL Grand Salami – Over 11.5 Goals (-125) ✅
I went a perfect 3-0 yesterday on a slate with limited options, so I’m feeling really good today. And while I might not have a chance to get a bet in today, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t! All four divisions are in action, so without further adieu, here are my favorite plays for tonight, February 4th.
Today’s Free Money
Montreal Canadiens -1.5 (-140)
This stinks a lot like the Tampa Bay/Detroit game yesterday. In a good way! Montreal has won 70 percent of their games to start the season, and all seven victories came by at least two goals. Ottawa is on the polar opposite side of the North Division. They’re 1-8-1, losing their last 9, and they haven’t played in a one goal game since January 19th. Just like Tampa -1.5 last night, this is about as free as money can be.
Canucks/Maple Leafs Over 6.5 (-125)
Life’s too short to bet the under! Especially in hockey. Both games cashed in yesterday, and so did the over on the Grand Salami! I’m looking to keep that rolling today in this matchup between the Vancouver Canucks and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Young up-and-comer Thatcher Demko will square off against Freddy Anderson, who shows flashes of brilliant goalie play, but has a very poor defense core in front of him (sound familiar, Sabres fans?). The young offensive firepower for both teams, matched up against two goalies who are sporting GAAs of over 3.00 has me confident in getting AT LEAST 7 goals here.
Nashville Predators +1.5 (-240)
If you’re an avid NHL bettor, or even if you just looked at Bovada’s hockey page for the first time today, you’ll notice that every single spread is 1.5. In no other sport will you find it that every game has the same point spread, and it’s only this way in the NHL because it’s a relatively low volume league in terms of betting (at least compared to the NBA, NFL and NCAAM). Because of this, it’s easy to spot the games that don’t fit with that spread, and this game is it. I know it’s -240 on a spread bet, but if Vegas is handing out the free money, we’d obtuse not to recognize it.
In the Florida Panthers’ six games played, five were one-goal games and four went to overtime. The Predators have played in four one-goal games, all coming in their last five outings. With the money lines so close in value (NSH -105 & FLA -115), this is a no-brainer.
