What’s up, degenerates! We’ll take a 2-1 record for the debut night. After a disastrous start of Houston losing outright as a 16.5 point favorite, we rebounded nicely with easy covers from Incarnate Word and Seton Hall! A 3-0 start would’ve been ideal, but I’ll never complain about a winning day!
It’s time to shift the focus to tonight’s slate.
Rutgers (-5.5) vs Minnesota
Our first game comes in the daunting Big Ten conference with Rutgers (10-6, 8-7-1 ATS) hosting Minnesota (11-6, 7-9-1 ATS). Both these teams have had their ups and downs this year and find themselves sitting on the bubble as we head into February. The one thing that stands out in this match-up is the drastic home/road splits for Minnesota this season. In Big Ten conference play, Minnesota is 4-1 ATS at home but 0-5 ATS on the road. In those five road games, Minnesota has lost by an average of 20 points per game! Tonight I’m going to bet on the trend continuing against Rutgers, who has been solid at home this year with wins over Syracuse, Illinois, Purdue, and Michigan State already this season.
Arizona (-1.5) at Utah
The next game on tonight’s slate is a battle between Arizona (13-4, 7-10 ATS) and Utah (7-7, 6-8 ATS). On paper, Arizona is simply the better team. Arizona is ranked 22nd is offensive efficiency and 56th in defensive efficiency compared to Utah who is ranked 66th and 91st. Arizona is also the better shooting team with a field goal percentage of 46 compared to Utah’s 45.5 percent and a three-point percentage of 38.2 compared to Utah’s 32.6 percent. However, the real advantage in this match-up is on the glass. Arizona is outrebounding Utah by 6.8 rebounds a game this year, and more rebounds mean more possessions, which means more chances to score. In what is basically a pick-em game, I will trust the numbers and take Arizona.
FG % | 3pt % | Reb./game | |
Arizona | 46.0% | 38.2% | 39.6 |
Utah | 45.5% | 32.6% | 32.8 |
Eastern Washington (-15) at Idaho
Our final game takes us to the Big Sky Conference and a spot to bet against one of the worst teams in all of college basketball. Meet Idaho, a team that is currently 0-13 and 3-10 ATS. Ranked 350th out of all 357 teams Idaho is absolutely terrible. They haven’t just lost games, Idaho consistently gets blown out. Out of their 13 games this year, Idaho has lost 10 of those by double digits and seven of those 10 have been by 15 points or more! Tonight they host Eastern Washington (6-6, 7-4 ATS) who is one of the favorites to compete for the Big Sky title. Idaho will be by far the easiest Division 1 opponent Eastern Washington has faced this season and they should beat them with ease.
